These energy balls are the best ones I’ve made yet! (In my opinion anyway).

These chocolatey energy balls are packed full of protein, antioxidants and fibre so are wonderful if you need a sweet pick me up and an energy boost. I usually have one or two before I go to the gym to give me that ability to power on especially if I’m going straight from work to the gym.

I tend make energy balls in nice big batches which I freeze and get out when I need them in smaller batches.


I did something different this time and used a delicious almond butter to increase the protein content. I also coated the yummy vegan energy balls with quinoa puffs, desiccated coconut or peanut powder for that extra bit of a protein boost but you don’t have to if you don’t fancy it. The great thing with energy balls is that you can make it up as you go along.

I tend to work by eye as I’ve made energy balls for a long time now so rarely measure my ingredients. I did this roughly in these measures although I’m sure there’s room to play and add more of this and less of that. Have fun making them!



185g almonds
380g medjool dates (because no others will do)
4 tablespoons raw cacao powder (
2 big tablespoons almond butter
2 loaded tablespoons coconut oil (get from



1, Ok, so the almonds went in my Kitchen Aid and got pulsed.

2, Then the medjool dates and coconut oil went in and I pulsed those until it was all mixed up.

3, The almond butter and cacao powder went in and whizzed that up.

4, Now time to get rolling into balls.

5, They’re quite sticky so I got ground almonds to roll them in, quinoa puffs and desiccated coconut.

6, They then went in the freezer for about an hour and now in a tub in my fridge ready for when we all fancy something yummy but good for you.

So simple to make, delicious and good for you too.
